Selena
She was a musician artist, designer and singer who broke through obstacles in the field. She was the first Mexican American performer who was both traditional and modern. She brought both cultures together and brought Tejano music into mainstream culture. Her untimely death splintered her rising profile and like many times when a bright deeply genial star dies far too young has left many mourning her unrealized potential. The fans have worked hard through the years to preserve her legacy. Selena's tragic murder by a gunman caused the outpouring of emotions within Latino communities that is comparable with the reaction to the deaths of Elvis Presley as well as John Lennon's. Selena was a hugely loved singer by Latinos throughout North America. But her music touched both the young as well as the elderly. Selena has been called by certain people as the Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's off-stage family values and her participation with AIDS awareness efforts make her a good example.
